Interesting Times

Ok so I could start this with the obligatory "I'm back" statement ..... but nope! Not quite sure where to start. If you continue to read on you will quickly realize why I do not really know where to go from or to what extent. I reckon to stop any unnecessary gap filling sentences I will try and keep things summarized. So .... August 2013 saw me badly hurting my lower back after a bad fall backwards onto the edge of 3x2 paving slabs. Lots of damage and training suffered greatly as I was out the game for many many weeks. Jan '14 saw the start of personal stress build with looking after my dad and mum Sept '14 saw my mum coming out of hospital and into rest-bite then into new home. This was very upsetting as I had to clear the old family home Oct '14 - after many months of my dad being ill and being in and out of hospital he sadly passed away this month Oct '14 saw the beginning of the most frightening and challenging journeys I have faced in life .... after going to my own GP to see about indigestion/stress stuff I accidentally found out that I had prostate cancer - this is where my world seemed to come to an end. I was already at rock bottom with all the stuff I had dealt with regarding dad and mum and then to find this out was .... well not sure how to put into words. May '15 - it has been a very upsetting and difficult 7 months but worth it. Had surgery which was successful and blood score suggests it is as good as gone. I am only about 8 weeks out of surgery so this is still very raw to me. - POINT TO NOTE: If you are a male reader please, please, please do not hesitate getting yourself checked if you think you have issues peeing ... its not worth ignoring!!! So ..... body is weak, mind is weak, but .... starting to climb back up. Training started last night ... a walk on treadmill!!! .... ahhhhh ...... but one step at a time. Special note to my lovely Yvonne who has been there through all my ups and downs with this. Here is to a bright and fit future

Training again

Did quite well up until August last year. Went on holiday and then things went south. Didnt help that I started uni again as well as keeping my full time job so something had to give a bit ... unfortunately the training got it. Been training hard again aver last few weeks as uni stuff was off for festive period. Need to keep things going when it starts again this month. Basically doing strength training and building with a mixture of endurance now and then. Looking to get back to lifting the 40kg dumbbells for chest press.

Friday night at the gym

Okay so its not quite got the same ring to it as the "Friday night at the movies" but so what!!!!!

Anyway been back training well despite a stupid slip and fall resulting in a pretty sore neck .... actually going to doctors as it hasnt cleared up an it feels like its the top of my spine that is still hurting. Tonight I did:

Warm up with 16kg Dumbbells, 3 sets of 12 reps
24 kg Dumbbells, 4 sets of 8 - 10 reps
26 kg Dumbells, 5 sets of 6 - 8 reps
24 kg Dumbbells, to failure, 3 sets

THEN!!!! NEWS FLASH:
4 Sets of leg press, 20 reps, not sure of weight as couldnt see withought glasses
doh!
4 sets of shoulder press .... weighjt not even worth mentioning as it is very low .... need to work on this ... that said ... I do better with free weights.

Then:
Ran on treadmill for 40 minutes.

Doesnt sound a lot but just a wee point ... i wasnt well last night and was actually sick just B4 coming to gym ... still not okay but didnt want to lie down to it so pretyy damn good I thought.

Anyway .... usual CV lasts about 55 miuntes.

Ahh the taste of sweat

Oh well its that time again. I have been at the new gym for about 4 months now. Started of like a hungry dog at a BBQ. Now calmed it down a bit as I was always sore and nackered. Had to as I had let things go a bit .... well okay .... not a bit but teh whole lot ha ha. Anyway going most nights and varying the training including the occassional cross fit routines. Things are getting there and I feel the difference but a long way to go until I get the dreaded body fat away. The Buda belly has went down a good bit though. Typical routine:

Lat pulldowns widegrip 120lbs 6-8 reps 5 sets
Lat pulldowns widegrip drop sets 120lbs 6-8 reps, 80lbs 8-10reps, 60lbs to failure
lat pulldowns close grip 120 lbs 120lbs 8-10 reps 4-5 sets
Lat pulldowns close grip drop sets 120lbs 8-10reps, 80lbs 8-10 reps, 60lbs to failure

Dumbbell shoulder press 10kg 10 - 15 reps, 5 sets (shoulders really weak)
Dumbbell lateral raises 10kg 10 reps, 4 sets

stability ball crunches 10 - 15 reps 6 sets
stability ball side crunches 10 reps 6 sets
stability ball core work (roll ball out with elbows and pull back in towards body whilst on knees 10 - 15 reps 4 sets

Treadmill 45 minutes

OMG ! Im back

Well hellloooo there. I had actually forgot about this as I have not been on it for so long. ...... but then .... I had a brain wave. Yea ok I know you need a brain in the first place.

Well since that last entry I did manage to get a full time position .... and I am still there. Money is ok but the work load is MURDER. ... excuse the punt given that its a prison but it really is full on. I am trying like mad to escape and get back into the community.

Other than that .... my training .... hmmm .... what can I say. Its been a major roller coaster ride,. I have access to 2 gyms at work which is way cool. i am now back at it after getting a f###ing chest ionfection AGAIN from my other half which stopped me in my tracks just as I was upping the auntie on my training. I am now up to 45 mins on treadmill plus weights session. Prefer lose weights though but cant always get to that gym ..... bummer. Anyway its good to be back at it plus with it being at work and not costing is a major plus.
will check in soon.

Next update and New Job stuff

Ok so its been a while since I put stuff on here but heh ..... I have stuff to write about this time.

Well since my last entry I have had a whirl wind time of it with job stuff and qualifications. Won't go into too much of a rant about the qualifications thingy but suffice to say that people doing uni stuff should look into the SVQ system and see if their qualification actually does what it says "on the bottle" so to speak.

Other than that I have now managed to obtain a full time sesional position with the place I was doing my placement with in Hamilton. Bummer is that I have to travel up to Polmont every day .... eeeeee ..... but will hope fully be worth it if I get the full time contracted job. Just for my own record I started there on Monday 20th October 2008.

I have also started back in the gym ..... ok .... I HEARD THAT .. everyone saying .... AYE RITE !! .... but seriously I have been going to a local gym that I can get into for nothing due to my present employment. Guess what type of training I have done:
CROSSFIT !!

So there u go big 'D' ..... ur legacy lives on :-)

Enjoying being back in the auld routine. Will start posting workouts soon.

With that I will go for now but as always ..... watch this space.
